Kalamazoo’s Air Zoo is an air “Must Do”!
Stepping back in time at the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo, MI your visit will be full of interactive exhibits, rides and more! Opening back in 1979, the museum collection started by Sue and Pete, happened by accident. As two former pilots, they started their own collection with personal purchases. Sue and Pete had always wanted to share their love of aircrafts with the public and when the chance arose to open a museum, they jumped on it!
Celebrating 40 years, the museum is open 360 days a year making it easy to plan a visit. While having a membership to COSI, we took advantage of getting in free at the Air Zoo. (Read more about getting in free with membership here and here.) Here’s a look at our trip:
Featuring rare and historic artifacts and exhibits, this Smithsonian-affiliated aerospace and science museum is a fun place to spend an afternoon exploring.
Featuring all types of travel, the Air Zoo showcases a large variety of planes, car, bikes, and other transportation including a hot air balloon.
Many of the exhibits appeal to the kid in all of us; from the favorite childhood plane and superhero to the fun interactive games, you’ll have a blast exploring for hours.
The second building of the Air Zoo features more raw exhibits like planes in the process of being restored.
With two separate buildings worth of exhibits, plan on allowing plenty of time to explore. Check out their website here to plan your visit and see if there are any special events going on during that time. If you decide to make a whole day of it, you can enjoy some goodies from the Kitty Hawk Cafe.
