A pictorial guide to the National Air Force Museum

A pictorial guide to the National Air Force Museum

Growing up as the daughter of a career Air Force dad, I’ve always felt a special connection to the USAF.   My maternal grandfather was in the Air Force for years and always held the military and USA in a special place. As I got older, my Air Force connection grew! My step dad and step mom served and one of my younger brothers served in the Air Force as well!

When I heard there was an Air Force museum, I knew I had to go. Sadly, it took 6 years before I made it there (even though it’s practically in my back yard LOL). Once I did, I was very impressed and had to share it with you!

Upon arriving at the National Air Force Museum, there were several planes outside to explore, one of which had only been recently decommissioned.

In total, there are 4 large hangars/buildings connected, each of which represents a separate era/war in aviation. When you first arrive you’ll be taken back to the early years and learn how the United States Air Force came into existence. You’ll also step into the World War 2 years before heading to the next section.

Of course, before you leave be sure to stop by the gift shop and pick up some awesome souvenirs.

The museum is free and was well worth our time! Obviously, as you can tell by the photos, there is a lot to see and learn about at this museum. Even though I’ve shown a lot of photos here, there’s nothing like seeing it in person! I would highly recommend it to anyone near or far.  I put this museum on the list of things to do while in Dayton, Ohio because I was very impressed. I know you will be too!

Have you been to the National Air Force Museum? I’d love to hear your take on it.  Planning on visiting? I’d love to hear what you are looking forward to about your visit.
